Ο Ανδρέας Γεωργίου, συνθέτης και κιθαρίστας, γεννήθηκε ατη Φαμαγκούστα της Κύπρου.
Άρχισε να ασχολείται με τη μουσική σε ηλικία δέκα χρονών, σπουδάζοντας κλασική κιθάρα και συνέχισε σπουδάζοντας κλασσικό πιάνο, κλασική και σύγχρονη αρμονία, φούγκα και σύνθεση με το συνθέτη Δημήτρη Δραγκατάκη. Ακόμη πήρε μαθήματα βυζαντινής μουσικής στο Εθνικό μουσικό σχολείο του Σίμωνα Καρρά με δάσκαλο το Γιώργο Ρεμούνδο.
Η μουσική του έρευνα επεκτείνεται σε διαφορετικά εθνομουσικολογικά ιδιώματα, όπως των αφρικανικών και των κλασσικών ινδικών περιοχών, αλλά και σε διάφορα παραδοσιακά όργανα όπως το sitar, το shahnay, η tambura, το αφρικανικό sanza, η κρητική μαντουρα, το πικιαυλι της Κύπρου και τα μικρά κρουστά.
Το ενδιαφέρον του Γεωργίου στην πολυρυθμική προσέγγιση της κιθάρας, τον οδηγεί στο σχεδιασμό πρωτότυπων μοντέλων πολύχορδων ακουστικών κιθάρων με 13, 14, 15 και 16 χορδές, σχεδιασμό που υλοποιεί ο Λεωνίδας Βραχάτης.
Επιπλέον, η μελέτη του πάνω στις μη συγκερασμένες κλίμακες, τον οδηγεί στο σχεδιασμό μιας ηλεκτρικής κιθάρας, που υπό την επίδραση ηλεκτρομαγνητικών πεδίων μπορεί να παράγει αιθέρια ποιότητα ήχου.
Ο Γεωργίου έχει συνθέσει μουσική για το Τρίτο Πρόγραμμα της Ελληνικής Ραδιοφωνίας, για θεατρικές και χορευτικές παραστάσεις. Τα τελευταία είκοσι χρόνια έχει συμμετάσχει σε συναυλίες σε όλο τον κόσμο και ήταν μέλος σε τζαζ και έθνικ γκρουπ όπως οι "Sansa Quartet", "East-West Wind", "Szabo Sandor Duo", "Hermae", "Embryo", "Aeora ", "Trio Kutsukuta", "Trias" και "A Europian Story".
Μεταξύ των πιο πρόσφατων συνεργατών του υπήρξαν κάποιοι από τους δημιουργικότερους παγκοσμίως μουσικούς όπως ο μπασίστας Eberhard Weber, ο περκασιονίστας Airto Moreira, ο κρουστός Reto Weber, ο πιανίστας Rainer Bruninghaus και η Σαβίνα Γιαννάτου.
Ο Γεωργίου διδάσκει τζαζ αυτοσχεδιασμό και αρμονία στο Δημοτικό Ωδείο της Πάτρας από το 1989.
Andreas Georgiou, composer and guitarist, was born in Famagusta, Cyprus.
He began his musical activities at the age of ten, with classical guitar studies and continued later on with classical piano, classical and contemporary harmony, counterpoint, fugue and composition with composer Dimitris Dragatakis.
Furthermore he studied Byzantine music at the National music school of Simon Karras with precentor George Remoundos, in Athens.
His research, expanded in different ethnomusicological idioms, such as African and classical Indian regions, playing traditional instruments like sitar, shahnay, tambura, African sanza, Cretian mantoura, pithkiavli of Cyprus and small percussion.
Georgious interest, towards the polyrhythmic approach of the guitar, lead him to the design of different multi-string acoustic guitar models, with 13, 14, 15, 16 and 19 strings, all materialized by the Greek luthier Leonidas Vrachatis. Furthermore, his research for non tempered scales, lead him to the design of an electric fretless guitar, which can create a very special "etherial" quality of sound, by the superimposition of electromagnetic fields.
Georgiou has composed music for the Third program of the Greek radio, for theatrical performances and dance theater.
During the last 20 years, he has been giving concerts, in many different countries such as Cyprus, Greece, Holland, Germany, Hungary, Irland, Russia, Argentina, solo, leading, as well as participating in Jazz and Ethnic groups, such as "Sansa Quartet", "East-West Wind", "Szabo Sandor Duo", "Hermae", "Embryo", "Aeora", "Trio Kutsukuta", "Trias", "A Europian Story".
Among his most recent cooperations exist some of the worlds most creative musicians: bassist Eberhard Weber, percussionist Airto Moreira, drummer Reto Weber, pianist Rainer Bruninghaus, bassist Peter Bockius and Sabina Giannatou.
He has been teaching Jazz improvisation and harmony at the Muncipal Concervatory of Patras since 1989.
